Through the years, I've found it to be enjoyable to "rewrite" some songs. "Weird Al" Yankovic
and ApologetiX have done it for many songs! It is an easier way to write a song! You
already have the music and you have a structure of words, to start with, to help you with the
rewrite. For most people, it is easier to have the music before the words. For some
musicians, like Elton John, they have a talent to write music after the words.
The ApologetiX band names themselves after the word "apologetics" which defends Christianity.
Some of my rewritten songs defend Christianity but, for all of the songs, it is just nice
to get in words that I find most meaningful!
So, enjoy my rewritten songs below and think about writing some of your own!
Jesus in the Sky and Flyin'
I heard a phrase about the rapture as "coming to a sky near you"! It made me think of Elton John's recording of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. I thought about it while swimming at a pool in Caldwell Ohio. During the swimming, I thought of the title of Jesus In The Sky And Flyin'. I also thought of the section starting with "Each day the chances". I wrote it down. I didn't finish writing it until weeks later because I then had Covid 19. Once, I was out of the Covid 19, I went back and finished the song. It's a nice song to sing about the rapture!
(guitar intro and bells)
Picture yourself as you float in the breezes
Past tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
The One with the great loving eyes
I hear a trumpet of transparent gold
Towering a view just like dawn
Look for the One with the love in His eyes
And I’ve gone
(heavy drum beat)
With Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky, I’m flyin’
Oh!
Follow Him down to a bridge by a fountain
Where precious stones glimmer and bring forth a sigh
Everyone smiles as we drift past the cloud shapes
That grow so incredibly high
Each day the chances of return got near
Waiting to take my soul away
I’m climbing up high with my head in the sky
And I’ve gone, today
(heavy drum beat)
With Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky, I’m flyin’
Oh!
(guitar solo)
Each day the chances of return got near
Waiting to take my soul away
I’m climbing up high with my head in the sky
And I’ve gone, today
(heavy drum beat)
With Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky, I’m flyin’
Oh!
Picture yourself by the voice of the archangel
With gathering four winds when I rise and fly
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The One with the great loving eyes
(heavy drum beat)
Don’t you know that it’s
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky, I’m flyin’
Oh!
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky and flyin’
Jesus in the sky, I’m flyin’
Oh!
(heavy drum beat)
Jesus in the sky, oh it’s Jesus
Jesus in the sky, oh it’s Jesus
Jesus in the sky, oh it’s Jesus
Oh!
(blast of trumpet)
Betty And The Pets
It just came to me one day that Bennie And The Jets (song by Elton John) is similar to Betty And The Pets. So, I wrote it to celebrate Betty's love of pets. For years in apartments, we were not allowed to have pets. So, if it seems that Betty is overboard with her Pets, she is sort of making up for lost time. She really enjoys her pets and she thought about working for the Erie Zoo because of her love of animals (God's creations)!
Hey kids, note it in your journal
The car light’s hitting something
That’s been glowing eyes nocturnal
We’ll have them dance on catnip
So stick around
You’re gonna hear some peaceful purring
Solid walls of sound
(Chorus):
Say, Dandy and Yawny, have you seen them yet
Oh, but they’re so spaced out, B-B-B-Betty and the Pets-s-s-s
Oh, but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
Oh, Betty she’s really keen
She’s got the short-haired brands and long-haired too
You know I read it in Cat Fancy magazine
B-B-B-Betty and the Pets-s-s-s
Hey kids, reflexes like lightning
Maybe they’re quicker
But Betty gets them dawdling
We shall survive, let us take ourselves along
Where we guard our fur babies out in the streets
To find what’s right and what’s wrong
(repeat chorus abundantly)
B-B-B-Betty and the Pets-s-s-s!
Goodbye Windows 7
As Windows 7 was expiring for support, I thought of the "Goodbye Norma Jean" opening line for Elton John's Candle In The Wind song. It followed from there to complete the song that says goodbye to the Windows 7 computer operating system.
Goodbye Windows 7
Though I never knew you much at all
You had the case to hold yourself
’til a new version came to crawl
It crawled out of the woodwork
And it whispered into the brain
It set us on a treadmill
And it made us buy to gain
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But you were just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
A warranty ever did
Limited was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Microsoft created a superstar
And pain was the price we paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still had a lead
All the papers had to say
Was that Microsoft was found in the greed
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But you were just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
A warranty ever did
Goodbye Windows 7
Though I never knew you much at all
You had the case to hold yourself
’til a new version came to crawl
Goodbye Windows 7
From an old man in the early DOS days scene
Who sees you as something more than marketing
More than just the Microsoft Machine
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But you were just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
A warranty ever did
Elon
Elon Musk is an interesting technological person. Since Elon ryhmes with Levon, I used Elton John's Levon song to write about Elon Musk. He was born on 6/28/1971 which is Family Day in Vietnam and the Vietnam War was going on during his birth.
Elon wears his Tech wounds like a crown
He calls his child Griffin
`Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town
Elon, Elon has some money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days thinking
So that Tesla and Space X can play
He was born a prodigy of Tech on a Family Day
When the Vietnam War was such a dread
And the change began
Oh Errol Musk has a son today
chorus:
And he shall be Elon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Elon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Elon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Elon
Elon sells Space X rockets in town
His family business thrives
Griffin shoots up rockets all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Griffin, he wants to go to Venus
Leaving Elon far behind
Take a rocket and go flying
While Elon, Elon slowly cries
He was born a prodigy of Tech on a Family Day
When the Vietnam War was such a dread
And the change began
Oh Errol Musk has a son today
chorus:
And he shall be Elon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Elon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Elon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Elon
Le'Veon
Le'Veon was written from Elton John's Levon song. Le'Veon Bell is a running back in the NFL. He held out a year from playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers for more money. He wrote and performed music with a stage name of Juice. Ironically, he was born on 2/18/1992, exactly 40 years after 2/18/1952 when singer Juice Newton was born. His first song was Target which was about his dispute with the Steelers. I could not find a record of Le'Veon's father so I used his mother's name of Lisa Bell in the song.
Le’Veon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Target
`Cause he wrote the song
And it tells us of his contract feud in town
Le’Veon, Le’Veon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days counting
In a store room where his agent stays
He was born just two score past Juice Newton, to the very day
When the music times called him by Juice
And the wars begun
Lisa A. Bell has a son today
chorus:
And he shall be Le’Veon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Le’Veon
In tradition with the contract plan
And he shall be Le’Veon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Le’Veon
Le’Veon sells dispute albums in town
”My Side Of Things”, it thrives
Target cranks out albums all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Target, he wants to go to Venus
Leaving Le’Veon far behind
Take an album and go sailing
While Le’Veon, Le’Veon slowly cries
He was born just two score past Juice Newton, to the very day
When the music times called him by Juice
And the wars begun
Lisa A. Bell has a son today
chorus:
And he shall be Le’Veon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Le’Veon
In tradition with the contract plan
And he shall be Le’Veon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Le’Veon
'Puter Man
I wrote this a long time ago, using Elton John's Rocket Man song. It goes back to the days that DOS was the operating system for computers. My fascination with music and computers resulted in this song.
I flipped the switch last night pre-flight
Set the time and the date
And I'm gonna be high at the DOS prompt gate
I miss my sleep so much
I miss my wife
It's lonely out on screen
On such a timeless strife
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till I step down from this machine of mine
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no
I'm a 'puter man
'puter man, hacking on a keyboard all night long
New screens are not the place to recall time
Sometimes an endless loop
So I'll take some time to save time for next time
And all this high tech
Do I understand?
It's just my job, all days, all weeks
A 'puter man, a 'puter man
And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till I step down from this machine of mine
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no
I'm a 'puter man
'puter man, hacking on a keyboard all night long
And I think it's gonna be a long long time . . .
Scarf Queen
Dr. Deborah Birx became widely familiar in 2020 as she assisted communication about the Covid 19 Virus on television. I am impressed with her knowledge, her long term dedication to disease research through the years, and her style (especially her colorful scarves!). She is a special queen so then I thought of Elton John's Snow Queen song and wrote the Scarf Queen song. Thanks Deb Birx for your comforting information during the early days of the pandemic!
You remind me so much
Of the press room you walk in
Where everything's color
That has us all talking
You're a star in a gray world
You're a dazzler with swirl
The finest born doctor
Born doctor around
And I believe that the Scarf Queen
Lives somewhere in the charts
She's got the world on a graph
Like patterns to your heart
Arms that spread with thoughtfulness
Upon a researched slate
The Scarf Queen reigns in a wonderland
Behind the White House gates
Your talents are tested
They're polished and they're shaped
Your talents aren't wasted
On science with no taste
But how about proving
That passion means more than
A vaccine or pills, a key potion
Fragile plots or a plan
And I believe that the Scarf Queen
Lives somewhere in the charts
She's got the world on a graph
Like patterns to your heart
Arms that spread with thoughtfulness
Upon a researched slate
The Scarf Queen reigns in a wonderland
Behind the White House gates
Danny Bailey
There is a field goal kicker, named Danny Bailey, who played for the Dallas Cowboys. There is also an Elton John song called The Ballad Of Danny Bailey about a fictional gangster. I wrote the song to celebrate Danny Bailey, the football player, and also celebrate "football" in the United Kingdom, which the US calls soccer. It also celebrates Elton's favorite team, called the Watford Hornets.
Some punk with a hard fist blocked young Danny’s field goal
Congress Ticking
There is a song called Ticking that Elton John released from the Caribou album in 1974. They
tried to record it with the band but it came out best with just Elton's singing and piano. It
is amazing piano on that song. The lyrics talk about a mass shooter. At the time, everyone
hoped it would not get worse but it has gotten worse. Hopefully it will get better by
changing a culture from barbaric guns to stun guns and shields to reduce killing. I wrote the
song to point at Congress so that they can hopefully improve laws to have a safer society.
An extremely quiet group, they called you from the Congress scribes
Favorite Songs
There is a song called Solar Prestige A Gammon that Elton John released from the Caribou album
in 1974. It has nonsense lyrics with no intended meaning. I took the music of the song and,
using the same syllables as the nonsense words, used words that is a tribute to Elton John
songs, which are some of my favorite songs!
Oh, my soul is filled with music
The Shady Bunch
I started thinking about our family of cats being like The Brady Bunch! So I used The Brady
Bunch song and wrote about us. I threw Ruby in the picture because she has helped us clean
our house at times. I called us The Shady Bunch for a fun title and to help promote avoiding
over exposure to the sun.
Here's the story of a lovely lady
The Beat Goes Wrong
Betty claims I do not always clap to the right rhythm for songs. Maybe I've listened to too
many live recordings from the United Kingdom where they supposedly clap to a different beat.
It made me think of Sonny and Cher's The Beat Goes On song. I wrote The Beat Goes Wrong from
there. Betty also had a shirt made for me that says "I'm Rhythmically Challenged" and a shirt
for her that says "I Break For Food & Music"!
Nobody knows the troubles I've had
I Can't See Real Life
When the Pandemic started in 2020, with all the restrictions, it felt like you were trapped
in a mine. I thought of the Bee Gees New York Mining Disaster 1941 song and wrote I Can't See
Real Life from there. You longed to meet people again and to hug people again!
In the event of something happening to me
Imagine There's A Heaven
To me, John Lennon's Imagine song begs for a rebuttal! Therefore, I wrote Imagine There's A
Heaven. I remember thinking about it while shoveling snow. I wanted to point out that Heaven
is asked for and not earned and suddenly the line "It's easy if you ask, received salvation,
with no required task" came to my head. I shoveled more snow thinking "yes, I'll use that
line"!
Imagine there's a Heaven
Jesus Christ Is Returning To Earth
When hearing the Santa Claus Is Coming To Town song, it reminded me that Jesus is returning
and coming to town! From there, I wrote Jesus Christ Is Returning To Earth! I also included the
complete lyrics, including the rarely heard opening lyrics of "I just got back from a lovely
trip along the Milky Way", which my Dad played on the piano!
I just heard back from my loving God who made the Milky Way
Just One Seventeen (117)
Since the Vervalsing band was celebrating their 117th month reunion, it made me think of the
"She was just seventeen" line from the Beatles I Saw Her Standing There song. From there, the
Just One Seventeen song became a tribute to spending time with the Vervalsing band!
Well, they were just One Seventeen
My Redeemer Lives
One of my favorite Easter songs is My Redeemer Lives by Nicole Mullen. I love Nicole's lyrics
but I wanted to write a version with my own words as a tribute to my redeemer! I especially
wanted to include the new birth with salvation in Jesus as a comparison of the caterpillar
transforming to a butterfly! And, yes, My Redeemer truly lives!
Who takes a caterpillar, who will die
Only The Saved Have Peace
As I listen to Billy Joel's Only The Good Die Young, it has an anxiousness to get certain
things done before you die. I thought a more fitting message is that you can wait if you are
living forever with the peace of salvation through Jesus! Therefore, I made a title of Only
The Saved Have Peace! It's an alternative message for "Virginia"!
It’s fine Virginia, wait on the Lord
Snowstorm
Out of habit and practice, Northern people build up a special tolerance for snowstorms. Near
the Great Lakes, the snow can come down fast as "Lake Effect". During one snowstorm, I thought
to myself "here it comes" which reminded me of "here we come" from the Monkees Theme Song. So,
I wrote about the fun and positive sides of a snowstorm!
Here it comes, blowin' down the street
In The Ghetto
I heard about someone who was taking a stray pregnant cat to the Vet to be fixed. I thought
about neglected animals and then thought how it related a little to Elvis Presley's In The
Ghetto song. I wrote it from there.
As the snow flies
You So Loved Me
I love the "so" word in John 3:16. God doesn't just love us, he SO loves us that he provided
Jesus as salvation for the asking! One day, I thought about Anne Murray's You Needed Me song
and thought it could be nicely titled as You So Loved Me, about God loving me!
I cried a tear, you wiped it dry
You've Got A Friend
Carol King's You've Got A Friend song is wonderful. To me, it is almost a Christian song. I
just adjusted it a little to make it a Christian song here. "They'll hurt you and desert you,
and take your soul, but don't you let them"!
When you're down and troubled
Heaven
The words spoken at the beginning of each Star Trek episode are more of a narration than
a song, but it feels a little like a song. So, I put a Christian theme to it and called it
Heaven!
Heaven!
Youth Of Yesterday
I have not written music. It may be something more suited to others. Perhaps if I learned
chord structures more, I could write music. Sean Trombley performs Elton John songs in public
in Canada. At one time, he was in the mood to write music to lyrics. I gave him some of my
poems, as did some other people. He wrote a song for each of us. For me, he liked and chose
my Youth Of Yesterday poem. Here is a link to him performing the song!

Jesus Loves Me - Who's Behind - Red Heart
My Dad used to record to reel-to-reel tape as an audio letter to his Mother. My Dad gave me
a cassette tape from 1963 that came from a reel-to-reel tape letter. It has some songs. There
is me at 5 years old singing Jesus Loves Me and a song that I don't remember. It is Who's Behind
The Cow Path (or Cow Pie)! My brother Mark, at 5 years old, is singing Red Heart, and it sounds
like I am giving him the words in the background! That is time travel from a long time ago!

In cold wind, in the battle of a tough football game
Blocked him in anger, a force he couldn’t handle
Helped pull the football that cut short the score
And there’s not many knew him the way that we did
Sure enough he was a wild one but then aren’t most hungry kids
Now it’s all over Danny Bailey
And the scoreboard is in
Dallas has lost
I hope the Cowboys win again
We’re running short of heroes back up here in Watford
Besides Danny Bailey we’re gonna have to let Elton cheer
So make the ball round ‘cause England loves that
The ball bounces proper, I guess we love that fact
And we found faith in challenge, a lifestyle we lived by
A running kicking team in a fast restless pace
Now it’s all over Danny Bailey
And the scoreboard is in
Watford has won
I hope the Hornets win again
You’re only taking interest in your party and your bribes
So what was it that brought the public screaming while they cried
To notify the families of the manner in which you hide
At the Capital every session, chiefs of staff would hear your pleas
"Oh, we’re unconcerned with the public views, we want to be at ease”
But blood stained the victims that witnessed violent guns
And your Congress never thought to pass, a bill for safe guns
"Now you'll never get to stay here" Congress said
Remember Congress said
Ticking, ticking
"Vote up straight and true blue
Run with us, they pled"
Hear it, hear it, ticking, ticking
They had you brain-washed up in the lawyer bar, screaming for yourself
Someone said "their brains just snapped" then someone called it Hell
You failed the public waiting who had tried to talk some sense
Oh you pulled a line but only thought of, your powerfulness
Promising to help someone, though held to NRA
A tech group tries to make stun guns, with red tape there’s no way
The public felt the need to warn, “guns are barbaric”
Oh your Congress cried out in their head, “resist”, so pathetic
"Don't ever ride on the public's plea" Congress said
Remember Congress said
Ticking, ticking
"Pay your dues here well, my child
Steer where you get fed"
Hear it, hear it, ticking, ticking
Within some years your habit brought, a party machine
A “money matters” doctrine with blinders, had trumped what life should mean
The country has been killed off, more shootings every year
Killing people rather than stunning them, should shed, a Congress tear
Oh we pleaded to your sanity for the sake of those old lies
"Throw out bad guns, walk on safe, just vote your hands on high”
But you bumped your vote on assault guns so you could keep sponsors
Oh you dived from truth like a parachuter in a hideout like before
"You sleep to be in silence" Congress said
Remember Congress said
Ticking, ticking
"Crazy boy, just don’t wind up with public notions in your head"
Hear it, hear it, ticking, ticking
It is because of his gift
God gave him melodies to play
It soothes and gives me a lift
CHORUS:
Play me my favorite songs
And just make them last so long
There is nothing better sounding
Since the songs are very much astounding
So can you describe for me this feeling
Knowing the songs give so much joy
But does it have to be explained
Why not just sit back and just enjoy
REPEAT CHORUS
Who was bringing up three very lovely cats
All of them would shade from sun, like their mother
The youngest one with hats
Here's the story, of a man named Grimsby
Who was busy with three cats of his own
They were four guys, living all beside shade
Yet they felt not at home
Till the one day when the lady told this fellow
She just knew it was much more than a hunch
That this group must somehow form a family
That's the way we all became the Shady Bunch
The Shady Bunch
The Shady Bunch
That's the way we became the Shady Bunch
(Remember to wear sunscreen!)
I'm so rhythmically challenged, they say it's bad
CHORUS:
The beat goes wrong, the beat goes wrong
The drums don’t match my brain to the song
La De Da De DE
La De Da De DUMB
I can’t seem to be on the right page, uh huh
My bad beat brings others to a rage, uh huh
If they could get back to me, it would be sweet, uh huh
Or I’ll look for a beaten path back to their beat, uh huh
Could my rhythm be right and I’m alone at the top?
Or am I on another funky beat and told to stop?
To catch up with the others, I’ll pick up my pace
But that only gets me ahead of them with more disgrace
Why are they calling me “special”?, I’ll blame it on my brain
I am marching alone on an island with no escape, it’s insane
One of us is going faster all the time
I still cry "hey buddy, what is my crime"?
There is something I would like you all to see
It’s just a photograph of some friends that I hugged
I can’t see real life on the phone
When will real life return on the outside?
Don’t go meeting in groups you’ll cause a landslide, stay on the phone
I keep hoping for folks to be around
Just for all in the same room to be found
Oh how I want to talk and dine with them again
Or even sing and pray with them, but who knows when?
I can’t see real life on the phone
When will real life return on the outside?
Don’t go meeting in groups you’ll cause a landslide, stay on the phone
It's easy if you ask
Received salvation
With no required task
Imagine all the people
Living for all time
Imagine there's one country
That later is above
Nothing to earn, just receive
A gift from God's own love
Imagine all the people
Living in God's peace
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the battles will be all won
Imagine no possessions
Inspired by God's word
He has no broken promise
All will declare Him Lord
Imagine all the people
sharing one Heaven
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the battles will be all won
He made me earth and the North Pole and makes my every day
I called on my dear Jesus Christ
To save me from my sin
He took my fears away so nice
With Heaven that I win, so
You want to watch out, you want to not sigh
Want to not pout, I'm telling you why
Jesus Christ is returning to earth
He's made out a list and knows who believes
He will know then who's naughty or saved
Jesus Christ is returning to earth
He knows when you are sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be saved for goodness sake
Oh! You want to watch out, you want to not sigh
Want to not pout, I'm telling you why
Jesus Christ is returning to earth
Now Jesus is returning soon, it could be any day
It's not good to hesitate, you don't want to delay
You really need to pray to Him
And be saved right away
Then He'll let you be in
That Heavenly land someday!
With colorful gems and very clear light
Transparent gold and so many sights
Jesus Christ is returning to earth
With no more trouble and all pain will cease
Freedom, honor, and total full peace
Jesus Christ is returning to earth
The key to life eternal is written in God's word
We simply ask for salvation, a gift from our own Lord
So! You want to watch out, you want to not sigh
Want to not pout, I'm telling you why
Jesus Christ is returning to earth

And you know what I mean
And the way they played
Was far beyond compare
So how could I jam with another
Ooh, when I saw Vervalsing there?
Well, they looked at me
And I, I could see
That before too long
I'd join the band with them
I wouldn't jam with another
Ooh, when I saw Vervalsing there
Well, my heart went "boom"
When I crossed that room
And I held a guitar there
Oh, we played through the night
And we held our guitars tight
And before too long
The records were all beat
Now I'll never jam with another
Ooh, since I saw Vervalsing there
Well, my heart went "boom"
When I crossed that room
And I held a guitar there
Oh, we played through the night
And we held our guitars tight
And before too long
The records were all beat
Now I'll never jam with another
Oh, since I saw Vervalsing there
Oh, since I saw Vervalsing there
Yeah, well since I saw Vervalsing there
And gives it new birth as a butterfly
And who showed DNA
Where my cells will stay
Whose voice alone can
Create any plan
Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer forgives
From death to life, just for my sake
His love paid all mistakes
I know my Redeemer lives
This very same God
That keeps things in order
Wants me to know Him
To see with no borders
For all of His nature
Along with His Word, for sure
It conquers doubt
And peace is all about
Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer forgives
From death to life just for my sake
His love paid all mistakes
I know my Redeemer lives
He lives to be my lasting Savior
And he lives forever as my cure
For the Bible predicts much
And it all came true as such
So now He’s alive and I believe his saving touch
Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer forgives
From death to life just for my sake
His love paid all mistakes
I know my Redeemer lives
I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVES . . . !
A rushed decision, you cannot afford
But sooner or later it comes to His word
He might as well be your release
They showed you some technology and told you to play
They had you change plans if it won’t go your way
But they never told you the price that you pay
Where your anxious rushing leads
Only the saved have peace
You might have heard doing good will just get you by
Perhaps some money and deeds to supply
But no satisfaction still leaves you to cry
We rest on just faith and his release
Come on Virginia, look for a sign
Send up a signal, He’ll throw you a line
It’s works without faith you’re hiding behind
It never puts you at ease
And only the saved have peace
You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new goal
And a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn’t give you quite enough information
You didn’t count on God’s grace
As the only salvation you need to face
They say there’s a Heaven for those who will wait
Some say it’s too long but I say it’s great
I’d rather trust with the saints
Than be tripped by the faint
The saints have joy that won’t cease
And only the saved have peace
You know they’re going to tell you that a Christian has too many laws
They never read the Bible to know it helps you without any flaws
So, come out Virginia, trust in the Lord
And be amazed by His word
The joy will not cease
For only the saved have peace
YES, only the saved have peace!
We get the funniest white wash, everywhere we meet
Hey, hey, it’s the Snowstorm and people say to put on a frown
But we're too busy driving to let it get us down
We go wherever we want to do, it’s what we like to do
We don't have time to get restless, there's always something new
Hey, hey, it’s the Snowstorm and people say to put on a frown
But we're too busy driving to let it get us down
We're just tryin' to stay friendly, come and watch us slip and slide
We're the brave Northern Dwellers and we've got nothing to hide
Any time or anywhere
Just look over your shoulder, guess what'll be blowing there
Hey, hey, it’s the Snowstorm and people say to put on a frown
But we're too busy driving to let it get us down
We're just tryin' to stay friendly, come and watch us slip and slide
We're the brave Northern Dwellers, and we've got nothing to hide
We just drive a little slower, to stay safe in Wonderland
Those who take it much faster, can find their car out of hand
Hey, hey, it’s the Snowstorm, you never know when it will pound
So you'd better get ready, it’s gonna come to your town
On a cold and gray Erie morn
A poor little kittie is fixed and torn
In the ghetto
And her mama cries
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need
it's another overpriced bill to feed
In the ghetto
People, don't you understand
the kittie needs a helping hand
or she'll grow to be a pregnant mess some day
Take a look at you and me
are we too blind to see
do we simply turn our heads
with fixed prices on being fixed, look the other way
Well the world turns
and a little bitch in heat with no clothes
plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto
And her hunger burns
so she starts to roam the streets at night
and she learns how to steal
and she learns how to fight
In the ghetto
Then one night in desperation
a young bitch breaks away
She buys a gun, steals a car
tries to run, but she don't get far
And her mama cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young bitch
with another litter and her face in a ditch
In the ghetto
As we lose track of the kittens born
on a cold and gray Erie morn
another little kittie bitch is fixed and torn
In the ghetto
I was confused, you cleared my mind
I sold my soul, you bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you so loved me
You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could really see eternity
You so loved me, you so loved me
And I do believe it's you, I do believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave, I'd be a fool
'Cause I finally found someone who really cares
You held my hand when it was cold
When I was lost, you took me home
You gave me hope when I was at the end
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me friend
You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could really see eternity
You so loved me, you so loved me
You so loved me, you so loved me
And you need some love and care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of Him
And soon He will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night.
You just call out His name
And you know wherever He is
He'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And He'll be there
You've got a friend
If the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together and call His name out loud
Soon you'll hear Him knocking at your door
You just call out His name
And you know wherever He is
He'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And He'll be there
And He'll be there, yes He will.
Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold?
They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them,
Oh, but don't you let them
You just call out His name
And you know wherever He is
He'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, yeah, to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And He'll be there, yes He will.
You've got a friend
You've got a friend
Ain't it good to know, you've got a friend?
Ain't it good to know?
Ain't it good to know?
Ain't it good to know, you've got a friend?
Oh yeah, nowv
Oh, you've got a friend
Yeah, baby
You've got a friend
Oh yeah...
You've got a friend
